Padi Emergency First Response course

Not just for divers, EFR is useful to everyone.

Wreck diving can be one of the most hazardous types of scuba diving. This course shows you how to identify and control the risks and hazards involved.

If you are thinking of this course as a pre-requisite to your Rescue Diver, then please be aware that there are many equivalent courses (Red Cross, AHA, local paramedic centers etc) that you can take at home that will meet this requirement and save your vacation time.)

For health reasons this course is not being offered during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Emergency First Response course has 3 components

Home Study – EFR Manual and video.

Practical session to learn new skills in Fist Aid, CPR and use of an AED.

What you need to know

Course cost US $200.

This course (or its equivalent) is required prior to taking a Rescue Diver course.

No minimum age requirements.

This is the Emergency First Response Primary Care and Emergency First Response Secondary care courses combined.

This course adheres to the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) guidelines.

EFR CPR courses are accredited and approved by,The American Council on Exercise (ACE), Cal/OSHA and Federal OSHA guidelines 29 CFR 1910.151, Girl Scouts USA, The US Coast Guard and others.

Please note that “Online only” First Aid courses DO NOT meet these requirements (despite what you read on the interweb).

This course takes 1 day to complete.

Your Instructor

I trained to dive at Stoney Cove in the UK. Water temperatures in the UK can reach 68° F in summer but usually we were diving in water less than 60° F.
I first started teaching scuba on weekends in the UK.

In 2007 my wife and myself retired to St Kitts and I have been teaching here every since.

My teaching level in Padi is as a "Master Instructor", that is the second highest Instructor level in the Padi system. It requires not only taking Padi instructor training courses but also an extensive amount of actual student training experience.

I am qualified to teach 23+ Padi courses, not all of which are practicable to offer in St Kitts.
Personally I have around 5,000 dives which equates to maybe 4,000 hours of underwater time.

My registered student count with Padi passed 2,300 during 2022. I have also received the Padi Elite Instructor award every year since the start of the awards in 2013

For my own fun i became a TDI Technical diver where I prefer Sidemount over Doubles. I often dive in Sidemount configuration in St Kitts.

My thoughts on teaching

Most importantly, learning to dive should be fun. I know it's serious but it should still be fun.
I also believe that the more time we spend underwater the better divers we become, so I like my students to have maximum bottom time on dives.
